BICMINHO was officially announced as our next host for EBN’s 25th Annual Congress in Portugal in 2016. Member of EBN since 2000, BICMINHO has developed throughout the last 15 years a solid and exhaustive support programme for startups and SMEs from the region to develop in Portugal and at international level.
When it comes to the internationalization of companies, Nuno Gomes, CEO of BIC Minho since 2009, knows what he is talking about. With a European Diploma of International Management and a specialisation in International Trade signed by 7 European universities, his experience in the field has certainly helped in the success of BIC Minho being recognized as one of the best support organisations for the internationalisation of Portuguese SMEs and startups.
Of course, BIC Minho was one of the EU|BIC partners supporting actively the CONNECT project, an EU project that promotes the exchange of new entrepreneurs between the Federative Republic of Brazil and Europe.
The motto of BICMinho is “the modernization and internationalization of entrepreneurship”. Indeed , Portugal and the region of Minho have a long history in traditional industries both in the textile and agribusiness sectors. Through various programmes the team at BICMINHO helps at revitalising these traditional sectors through a creative vision and by giving them added value at international level.
The “SI Internacionalização e SI Qualificação do Portugal 2020" is one of the action lines through which they want to achieve this objective.
The SI Qualificação (Incentive Systems for Qualification) provides financial supports to SMEs willing to reinforce their business capacity through organizational innovation, which means by applying new organizational methodologies and processes that will increase their flexibility and enable them to better meet the requirements of the global market. Whereas SI Internacionalização (Incentive Systems for Internationalization) financially supports SMEs that want to increase their export capacity by applying new business models and new qualification processes for their internationalization
Another tool is their EU supported programme - LANPYMEXPORT. It promotes the entry of SMEs in the agribusiness sector of the Euroregion Galicia - North of Portugal in new market niches located abroad, thus creating a virtual platform that will facilitate the marketing of products from participating companies.
SMEs of the ICT sector are not left out either. ACEINT – “To do business without frontiers successfully” is a cross-border cooperation project that offers startups and SMES of the ICT sector the opportunity to launch their innovative business project successfully at global level through the specialised technical support and the development / internationalization of an ICT business model, as well as the acquisition of seed capital. BIC Minho provides its client companies of this sector with a whole set of information services on new international business opportunities, trends studies, technology watch and investments rounds with national and Spanish investors.
Backed up with all these assets, BIC Minho will certainly be a valuable partner to count with for the next 12 months to Design the Future of Innovation and Entrepreneurship (generic theme of our next congress in Guimaraes) both in Portugal and beyond.
