The University of Applied Sciences Upper Austria (FH OÖ) was established in 1994. FH OÖ contains of four campuses in Upper Austria located in the major cities Linz, Steyr, Wels and the important IT-Centre Hagenberg. In total there are 55 academic study programs in the specific fields of IT, Communication and Media (Hagenberg), Health and Social Sciences (Linz), Business (Steyr) as well as Engineering and Environmental Sciences (Wels).
The University has reinforced its research and development activities in recent years by establishing a Research & Development Centre at each Campus. These Research Centers cover 15 main areas of inquiry that reflect the evolving body of knowledge in the 21st century and together constitute Austria’s no. 1 University of Applied Sciences in R&D. The main focus is on research that will lead to sophisticated and practical applications for the benefit of commerce and society. FH OÖ comprises about 200 researcher and 230 research associates (state: 2014). In 2014 FH OÖ processed over 342 R&D projects with a total turnover of EUR 14 Mio.
