“Building resilience adaptation strategies to combat flooding”
Flooding causes considerable losses across the world each year with urban areas in specific danger of flooding due to their frequent location along major rivers. Confronting climate change challenges head on, in 2008 Rotterdam set up the Rotterdam Climate Proof programme to make the city resilient to climate change by 2025. One of the main elements is the Rotterdam adaptation strategy (RAS). TURAS has contributed to this strategy by investigating the risk and economic impact of flooding in un-embanked areas and also the risk of flooding from regional waterways. In this presentation the City of Rotterdam present their recommendations to help other delta cities in particular develop resilient adaptation strategies.
