Marcus Collier
Name Marcus Collier
Organisation  University College Dublin
Job title Overall Project Scientific Co-ordinator

Sector expertise:

After two decades as an ecological trainer and consultant, I completed my PhD in 2008 concentrating on damaged landscapes, resilience planning and collaborative processes. My post doctoral research has been varied. From examining the potential impacts of genetically modified crops on biodiversity and the landscape I continued as a member and work package leader on several international research teams examining the feasibility of applying principles of sustainability science in an Ecosystems Approach (EA) to marine management. My research interests focus on the complex and fascinating interface between social and ecological systems. My main areas of expertise are in interdisciplinary research, qualitative and quantitative methodologies, social-ecological interfaces, resilience and vulnerability, landscape and restoration ecology, environmental policies, rural geography, governance and community outreach as well as writing and presentation skills. I have presented at numerous national and international conferences and I have organised and delivered countless practical training courses, third level lectures and led a large number of field trips over the last ten years.
