PSDE Ethiopia

Ongoing project
This project started on Jan 01, 2021 to end on May 31, 2024.
The Private Sector Development in Ethiopia (PSDE) project focused on the capacity building of intermediaries in the Ethiopian innovation ecosystem. Financed by the German Government and implemented by GIZ, the project engaged EBN to strengthen the capabilities of incubators, accelerators, and innovation hubs across Ethiopia.

In collaboration with the Ethiopian Ministry of Innovation and Technology (MiNT), EBN developed a Quality Standardisation Framework to harmonise the quality standards of Ethiopia's startup ecosystem. The framework addressed regional economic development, quality business support, access to finance, and the scaling of Ethiopian innovations.

EBN delivered capacity-building initiatives for the Ethiopian Association of Startup Ecosystem (EASE), including training sessions, expert advisory services, and benchmarking against leading European ecosystems through the EU|BIC community. The programme also facilitated connections with the Ethiopian diaspora in Europe and strengthened linkages between universities and the broader innovation intermediary network.

The project received official recognition from H.E. Bayissa Badada Badassa, State Minister at MiNT, who endorsed EBN's contribution to advancing the quality and capacity of intermediaries within the Ethiopian innovation ecosystem.
