Empowering IP Lawyers in Lebanon for Innovation and Growth

Back to all posts

Successful conclusion of our recent capacity-building program aimed at experienced lawyers in Lebanon. This initiative brought together a dynamic group of legal professionals to support Lebanese organizations in valorising their R&D results.

Under Lebanon Innovate, a European Union funded project to revitalize the Lebanese entrepreneurial ecosystem and its productive sectors, EBN is seeking Lebanese universities, business support organisations, and research institutes to engage with the European innovation ecosystem. This initiative aims to foster collaboration, enhance innovation capabilities, and create lasting partnerships between Lebanese and European entities.

Designed to support researchers, startups, and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), this program achieved significant milestones in its mission to enhance the protection and commercialization of innovative ideas. And it was thanks to the expert participation of legal experts, Nisrine Haddad and Matej Kliman, who helped the trainees reach ground-breaking insight in IP law.

Building a Network of IP Experts

The initiative set out with the ambitious goal of establishing a network of at least 15 IP lawyers. These legal professionals are now well-equipped to offer essential support services to the country’s burgeoning research and entrepreneurial sectors. The program’s comprehensive approach has ensured that these lawyers are capable of providing the critical assistance needed to protect and promote innovation.

Comprehensive IP Training

Participants in the program received extensive training on the intricacies of IP law. This included practical knowledge on protecting, commercializing, and enforcing innovations. The training emphasized the importance of IP in safeguarding ground-breaking ideas, enabling researchers and entrepreneurs in Lebanon to secure their intellectual property effectively.

Enhanced Networking and Collaboration

A key component of the program was fostering opportunities for participants to expand their professional networks. Through various networking events and collaborative sessions, participants connected with other IP experts both within Lebanon and internationally. This exchange of knowledge and expertise is expected to significantly enhance their skills in protecting innovation.

Practical Methodologies and Services

The lawyers involved in the program were introduced to practical methodologies for assisting clients with scanning, filing, and protecting their innovative ideas, brands, and inventions. Additionally, they received valuable insights into conducting international patent assessments, broadening their capacity to support clients on a global scale.

Transforming Knowledge into Practical Advice

The training emphasized the translation of technical knowledge into actionable advice. This focus ensures that participants can now deploy their best practices and values to benefit the Lebanese innovation ecosystem. By turning complex legal concepts into practical guidance, these lawyers are better prepared to drive the protection and commercialization of innovation in Lebanon.
