LAZIO ABITARE GREEN is a living lab focused on the Green Transition challenges in the Construction value & supply chains. It supports Operators and Communities with new methodologies, advisory services, and best practices for developing and testing sustainable market solutions. The lab promotes the transition towards sustainability by enhancing the quality of living through replicable experiences and projects.
Organised by EU|BIC Lazio Innova, the programme, which started in 2023, aims to foster collaboration and co-design, develop skills through real-world comparisons, support innovative solutions via experimentation and measurement, and match supply and demand for innovation in the construction sector’s green transition.

The construction sector is crucial for the economy, but is dominated by small companies. The green and digital transitions require new models to improve housing quality and sustainability. The sector is responsible for significant energy consumption and CO2 emissions. In Italy, most homes are outdated and energy inefficient. LAZIO ABITARE addresses these challenges by developing the ecosystem through Open Calls for Partners, engaging in co-design sessions, conducting training workshops, scouting and mentoring innovative solutions, promoting innovation matchmaking, and organising events to showcase products and solutions.

- Co-design: Using networking meetings, focus groups, and surveys aimed at sharing experiences, methodologies, good practices, and pilot activities to experiment, measure and replicate relevant initiatives. Engaged 20 partners through the Call for Partners applications
- Capacity Building: Two sessions for project designers, companies, professionals, and public administrations with 31 participants, focusing on energy efficiency, green building solutions, and soft skills. One session on Green Public Procurement (GPP) and Minimum Environmental Criteria (MEC) construction with over 40 participants.
- Dissemination: Reached over 100 target bodies through dissemination initiatives.

Studio Sofia, a small company with over 20 years of experience, specialises in complete building solutions, including design, construction, and commissioning of electro-mechanical plants. Leveraging modern technologies and a network of skilled professionals, they ensure high-quality projects within acceptable costs and time frames.
Participating in the LAZIO ABITARE GREEN programme has been a valuable opportunity for our staff to grow and engage in peer learning. It has helped us enhance our skills in designing complex technological systems with a focus on sustainability. Through the Living Lab, we expanded our network and strengthened our support to customers, guiding them towards efficient, safe, and environmentally friendly plant engineering solutions.
